Elijah.....You are such a "Superman"

I just learned today, that a sweet friend of mines nephew has leukemia. She is so attached to this little guy even though he lives in California and she lives in Pennsylvania. He visited me at the Long Beach Quilt show this past July with his crazy Aunt Julie. (aka "Jaybird") Please say an extra little prayer for this guy. Like the picture shows he is a "Superman".......

Birds of a Feather Flock Together

These wonderful bird pincushions arrived in Arizona today from Kimber Van Heukelom of Adel, Iowa. Kimber makes the most beautiful wool pincushions. Can't wait to show them off at the San Diego Quilt Show on September 16th - 18th. Hopefully they will fly out of my booth!

Zippers are NO BIG DEAL!!! Just ask Terry Atkinson and Me

At Quilt Market in May I had the pleasure of meeting Terry Atkinson and fell in love with her cute "Zippered", yes I said "Zippered" bags. Now I don't make bags, I am a quilter. However I have become addicted to making these. Terry Atkinson's new patterns make them fast, fun and easy. They make perfect quick gifts and best of all you can use your scraps. Check out her patterns on my website: Elkhorn Quilt Company. They are called "Cash & Carry" and "Zippy Strippy". Once you learn her technique you can make any size bag you need. This one pictured is for my camera. I made it a little bigger and doubled the fusible fleece to give it more padding. Well I better go......I need to make one for my GPS.

Just Couldn't Say NO!!!

I recently received a call from someone I don't know, who had just returned home from a trip to Kansas to visit her 85 year old grandmother. She found these old quilt blocks her grandmother had made and wanted to find someone to put them together for her. (Her grandmother told her to throw them away.) Anyone who knows me, knows that I love old quilts. The blocks weren't done with the best workmanship, but then a lot of them weren't as they were usually self taught. To make a long story short....I couldn't say no! Here is a before and after picture. I will post another one after I find someone to quilt it. I think her grandmother will love it!!!

Halloween at the AQS Show in Des Moines, Iowa

I just got back from the AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa. (The above is a picture of my booth at the show.) I really had a good time and as usual made lots of new friends. If you have never been there, make plans to attend next year as it really is a great show. I didn't take too many pictures but wanted to share one of my favorites. Me and Eleanor Burns. Eleanor is always so full of fun and energy. (I want to be like her when I grow up.) Thanks to Nancy from Winfield, Iowa for all her help.

"The Birdie Quilt" made for A Cause

This quilt was designed by me using the "Tranquilty" line of fabric by Sandy Gervais. It was made using a bird panel, a jelly roll and a charm pack (and some border fabric). Nancy Nelson of Winfield, IA purchased a kit from me and made it to auction off to raise money for the Winfield First Responder and EMT Fund. It raised over $400 and was won by Tracy Rew of Iowa City, IA. (that is her pictured above). Congratulations Tracy!!!!!
